Enhancing the hospitality experience with cutting-edge tech

When it comes to technology and the use of devices to ensure smooth day to day running of a business, the hospitality sector is no different. In fact, trends in technology often influence how hotels and hospitality services go on to engage with their audience, resulting in a more streamlined and enhanced experience.

Focusing on the inclusion of audio visual technology within hotels, we look into the ways in which technology continues to strengthen the hospitality sector.

1. Technology and the rise of sustainable travel

The demand for sustainable travel has seen a major shift, with an increase being particularly visible over the last 12-18 months. This shift has resulted in hotels putting legislative changes into action, with a focus on constantly improving the customer experience whilst also reducing environmental impact. These objectives are influencing the way buildings operate and the way in which technology is employed within the sector.

2. Reducing environmental impact one screen at a time

When it comes to energy saving, behind solar power, switching from traditional methods of wayfinding, information sharing and advertising to digital audio-visual alternatives is another key area where technology can drastically reduce environmental impact.

Although digital signage does have its own carbon footprint from manufacturing and power consumption, it is generally more sustainable in the long term due to its reusability and the ability to display dynamic, multi-use content. Switching from printed posters and signage to digital displays not only reduces paper use and waste, but when paired with a Content Management System (such as our partner Evexi) this allows for content updates to be pushed remotely, reducing transportation and manual distribution energy consumption.

The technology itself is also becoming increasingly more sustainable, with LED screens now running on 75% less energy compared to that of five years ago. Although, in some instances, this has resulted in increased hardware costs, on average, the reduction in running costs will cover the initial outlay within 6-12 months.

Software is also constantly improving, with technology currently being developed that will optimise bandwidth on wi-fi, resulting in routers and processors having to work 50% less, in turn using less power.

3. Elevating the customer experience

When it comes to ways in which technology aids the hospitality sector, we can’t forget about the front-end user experience. In recent years self-serve kiosks have come a long way from only being found in fast-food restaurants. Today, even 5* hotels are starting to offer kiosk style check-in services for customers that prefer this self-sufficient option. With improvements in touch screen glass technology, such devices allow for a seamless process on the arrival of clients, altogether diminishing the wait time, increasing customer satisfaction and, most importantly reducing overheads.

4. Transforming the in-room experience

Hotel guests now have access to more personalised, convenient, and seamless services. With smart devices like voice-activated assistants, guests can easily control lighting, temperature, entertainment, and even request services without leaving their room. Digital key systems allow guests to bypass front desk check-ins, unlocking doors with their smartphones, and offering a smoother arrival process. In-room tablets or smart TVs provide access to a wide range of entertainment options, on-demand services, and local information. Additionally, contactless payment systems and mobile apps enable guests to request room service, schedule housekeeping, or check-out directly from their devices, reducing physical interactions and enhancing safety. Overall, technology elevates guest comfort, improves efficiency, and enables a more customized stay.

5. Making a great first impression

For hotels, first impressions are often made in the lobby, driving interest in show-stopping installations to enhance the customer experience as soon as they step through the door. In recent months we have worked with hospitality clients to design, supply and install experience enhancing technology, including a 4K LED display complete with content designed in-house by our partners at Visualabs, touch-screen information screens, covered with protective interactive glass, a floor to ceiling LED waterfall, and a digital aquarium – highlighting the endless opportunities that digital technology provide. We also have the option to supply LED flooring, with multiple functionalities – from interactive children’s content, to a seemingly normal dancefloor that stays monochrome until you decide to liven it up, or even just to provide directions to various facilities within the resort. We’ll work with you to understand your customer base, needs and requirements and build a solution bespoke to you.

In conclusion, with constant technology advancements, the sky is the limit for the hospitality industry, concerning both user experiences and streamlining back-end functions.
